Illegal workers cost us billions

The most serious consequence is that by flooding the labor market they lower wages, which have steadily declined in real dollars since President Reagan instituted neoliberal policy of undercutting the enforcement of immigration laws.

(They are not immigrants, since they haven’t immigrated—filled immigration papers.  The Republicans want to make these unlawful residents immigrants!)

8. $3 Million Dollars a DAY is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens.

9. 30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens.  It costs over $50,000 year to house a federal inmate.

10. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two-and-a-half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US.

 11.  During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroin and marijuana, crossed into the U. S from the Southern border. Homeland Security Report.

12. The National Policy Institute, 'estimated that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.'

14. 'The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration: Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants in The United States  over a 88 month period by an estimated 240,000 illegals—4 victims per offender.

[i] This figure is only a small fraction of the real loss in wages.  Flooding the market with more workers entails fewer jobs for U.S. Citizens.  Thirty years ago most trash collection, construction, restaurant workers where not Hispanic.  And thirty years ago the combination of protective tariffs, fewer than 2 million illegal workers, and a strong labor movement permitted one worker to support a family; today it takes two.  Today the greatest percentage of people lives under the poverty line since the end of World War II (and that number is much greater than our government’s figures for their stats are no more accurate than our President).

Some numbers on wages etc

Sources and A carefully researched article with extensive footnotes.  The insurmountable difficulty in measuring the effect is measuring the road not taken:  What would our wages be if they stayed at the pre-Reagan level of illegals—estimated 1.1 million in 1970?  The issues aren’t who would fill those so-called unwanted jobs, but rather its effect upon the job market.  Pay more, and unwanted jobs become wanted—as they were in the 60s.

1.  The median wage of a high school drop out is $350/wk, for a Mexican illegal resident (MIR) is $326.  The competition falls heavies on Negroes and high school dropouts.

2.  Sources Mexico 57%, Central & South America 24%, Asia 9%, Europe & Canada 6%.

3.  Modes of entry:  Non-immigrant Visa overstay 4-5.5 million; border crossing card violation 250,000—500,000; crossing border at location other than check point 6-7 million.

Phone verification for worker authentication by employer.*

* For decades, immigration authorities have alerted ("no-match-letters")[171] employers of mismatches between reported employees' social security cards and the actual names of the card holders. On September 1, 2007, a federal judge halted this practice of alerting employers of card mismatches. Social Security Administration was to send out 141,000 no-match letters, covering 8.7 million employees. (Wikipedia).  This doesn’t entail that the employeer needs to terminate the illegal’s job, and the risk of prosecution is negligable.  The government responded by vitiating the rule.  There are as of 3/2008 17.8 million discrepancies in the SSA database that would result in no match letters.

Solution, fine the employer:

Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg Poll[211] indicates that 77% of respondents believe employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants should be punished for their actions.(Wikipedia).  Fine them and their won’t be jobs for them.

If there lips are moving they are lying.

The one thing you can be sure that they stand for, is to get elected.

To understand developments in our political system (both parties) one must understand the role of neoliberalism.  Any analysis which misses this connection is grossly inadequate.  (Neocons follow neoliberalism economic policies).

We have an evil, evil system. Words such as imperialism, greed, corporate greed, neoliberalism, neoconservate, globalism, bought politicians, control of media are descriptive.   There are reasons why the labor movement has collapsed.  It is the politics of neoliberalism, an out growth of corporate greed.  Given how it opposes the public weal, we have devoted a section to expose just what neoliberalism is—a thing that the five corporations which own broadcasting will not do.

Things have gotten worse, the hole the neocons has dug is much deeper.  The economic stats are worse than bad:  the trend is toward greater disparity of wealth and on top of that the U.S. is loaded with debt and imbalance of trade.  The debt can through fiscal austerity can be paid off (as some of it was under Clinton), but the trade imbalance will only grow due to the dismantling of are industrial base and the setting up of free trade agreements such as NAFTA.   The current foreign debt is equaled to over 70% of GDP, a ratio unmatched by far among industrialized nations.  To find out what economics is called the dismal science and the role of neoliberalism.
