THE FIRST FOUR ARTICLES FROM ARE AROUND A THEME AND MYSTERY:  THE JESUS LEGEND AND ITS SOURCE

What follows is not some half-baked theories, but rather the culmination of several centuries of scholarly studies on the life of Jesus by those who were not blinded by faith.

Once you have examined the reasons for concluding that the gospels are fictions, once you have considered the beliefs of the first "heretic" sects, then you have gained insight into the soil which gave rise to Christianity.  What follows is scholarship for the sake of arriving at the most reasonable conclusions.

To have Christian "scholars" write on the history of Christianity and the biblical Jews is comparable to having Soviet Communists write on the Russian revolution and their form of socialism: they write works of faith.

Below is a work of art entitled Pilgram's Progress, named after John Bunyan’s (1628-1688) allegory concerning a family man turning away from his past and search for Christian enlightenment.  Along with Josephus, after the Bible and a book of hymns it was the most popular English book for over a century.  Bunyan was neither a man of letters or culture, but a puritan self-appointed preacher--imprisoned 12 years for preaching without a license.  He was a commoner, and the work appealed to them.
