We have a corporatist state (alliance between corporations and government); what Teddy Roosevelt called the “Shadow Government” (quote bottom of page).  The financial sector is first among corporations.  Because corporations' system of review/performance is based on the maximize short-term profits, it is a system for increasing misery which produces economic collapse and civil unrest.  The over 500 articles in the Political-Economic section of Skeptically demonstrate the effects of unfettered capitalism.  Solutions are posted at http://www.skeptically.org/ethicsutility/ and elsewhere.
